SO EXCITED! Somebody at Diamond Harmony read that my annual Valentine’s pendant came from them, and they linked to me on their customer email! I got their monthly newsletter this morning, and at the bottom there was a great big link to this blog! SO AWESOME. I was actually hoping for, like 50% off on spring jewelry, but I guess my reward is the exposure, as they say on Craig’s List LOL.
OK. You may have to fan yourself with the nearest copy of “Hollywood Wives,” but I am now awarding the top prize of Oscars 2007 to the woman who has written 25 romance novels, endured the death of two husbands, and still has the guts to show up at the awards for absolutely no reason except to show off her diamond drop earrings and her diamond necklace. Here she is: Jackie Collins.
Huge necklaces were the real eye-catcher this year. Gemstones, diamonds, and…hmm? My picks:
1) Chloe Sevingy.
Reply if you can name all the gemstones. I see purple, green and red. The greens are emeralds for sure. But are those pink sapphires? Or amethyst? And does she have rubies? Or garnets?
2) Naomi Watts.
I think I see a zillion dollars worth of gigantic diamonds. Some white, some yellow fancies. Call me crazy. (Please! Post comments! Call me crazy!) I think the earrings are white topaz.
3) Jennifer Lopez.
OK, I don’t know what I see here at all, but WOW. It’s a Marchesa dress, and the necklace-as-neckline deal is said to be made of “crystals.” Hm. What kind of “crystals?” Tell all if you know it.
Drop earrings were clearly the popular favorite on the red carpet. My three top picks:
1) Natalie Portman.
Funky diamond and onyx. She’s wearing the same dress as Madonna, but who cares? I trimmed it so you won’t have to think about that.
2) Anne Hathaway.
Exquisite teardrop pearls. (I did you a favor and cut off her unfortunate collection of bracelet bangles.)
3) Jessica Biel.
Chunky diamond medallion drop. She got flak for her dress, apparently, so I cut that off too. We’re here to take about jewelry, after all.
Only Gwenyth Paltrow truly rose to the occasion, and continued to champion the chandelier earrings that Nicole Kidman brought into fashion at the 2003 awards.
As I have been noting in these pages recently, chandeliers are very much in fashion right now, but it seemed that most stars avoided them at the Oscars. They probably didn’t want to distract attention from the gowns.
Well, Oscar fans, it seems that my four earring ladies from last year have left me high and dry. Jennifer Alba wore the same-shaped drops, minus the gorgeous gemstone. Jennifer Garner wore some rather miserable looking drops, and a housecoat with red buttons, and looked like she was going to be ill. Reese Witherspoon’s earrings were buried in her hair. And Nicole Kidman forgot to wear earrings at all!
So, I have to award this year’s prize for innovation to a pair of shoes:
Stuart Weitzman Diamond Dream Shoes, with 1,420 Kwiat diamonds totaling over 30 carats, set in platinum circles. Priced at over half a million dollars. Worn by Anika Noni Rose (the third “Dreamgirls” girl).
Let’s remind ourselves what the ladies wore on their ears last year:
Jennifer Garner in diamond hoops.
Jessica Alba in peridot drops.
Reese Witherspoon in diamond and rose quartz chandeliers.
Nicole Kidman in 2-carat bezel set diamond studs.

July 2006. Marcia Cross, at a press conference for the fall season of “Desperate Housewives.” Who does her eyebrows? It must take an hour a day. But I still can’t help spotting a bezel set solitaire diamond pendant:
September 2006. Marcia reveals that she is pregnant! Due date in April 2007.
October 2006. Maria reveals on the Ellen show that she is having TWINS!
November 2006. A freak goes through Marcia’s trash and finds nude photos of her, and threatens to sell them. This seems to inspire poor Marcia to wear what appears to be the rubber ring from a Listerine bottle as a Circle of Love.
Later in November, 2006. Marcia is working hard to pull it together. She’s got the ginormous pearl necklace layering with the hammered gold discs, cleverly drawing attention down across her cleavage and away from her desperate expression:
December, 2006. She’s not doing photo shoots, but who can resist some last-minute shopping at Barney’s? Nice turqoise drop earrings. She seems to be perking up!
Feb 2007. Marcia, presumably aided by a team of stylists, appears on the cover of “Good Housekeeping.” She’s beautiful. And whatever that earring stone might be, it is SO gorgeous with her hair and her dress, right?

It first came to my attention this week that diamond medallions are, apparently, in, when I saw that Mira Sorvino is the spokesmodel or whatever for the Diamond Information Center’s annual pre-Oscar Celestial Diamond Affair. She looks a bit jet-lagged, sorry to say, but wow look at that diamond medallion.
On the flip side of sexy, I would not have recognized Katherine Heigl from “Grey’s Anatomy” without a photo caption. And WOW look at THAT diamond medallion.
And all she’s doing here is a Vanna White walk at a car show! I’m think I’m going to get a diamond medallion so I can wax my floors in style.
Our beautiful diva Gwenyth Paltrow was at the St. Regis Hotel in New York last Thursday to raffle off a gorgeous diamond and gold necklace by Damiani.
Proceeds of the raffle, as well as other auctioned jewelery, went to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. Gwenyth ROCKS!
