My head on a platter

Friday, February 16th, 2007

OK, I have been righteously dissed by a Carrie Underwood fan, who slammed me for cutting off the picture of her diamond dress at the Country Music Awards last fall. Actually, we were both a bit mixed up, but I shall take the high road and clear all this up.

The photo that I first put up:

Carrie Underwood at CMA’s?

does NOT cut off the Kwiat dress. Because this photo is not from the CMA’s, it’s from the AMA’s. (Who can keep up with all that, and right in the middle of holiday shopping?) At the American Music Awards, Carrie wore this:

Ah, it’s Carrie Underwood at the AMA’s 2006!

Clearly, not the diamond dress.

But at the CMA’s, she did indeed wear a gown by David Rodriguez with nearly 800 diamonds, supplied by Kwiat. Most of the diamonds are on the straps, so this over-the-shoulder shot gives you the best view:

Thanks to Cristy for the heads up on this amazing dress!

Thirty cent tip didn’t hurt

The next time I’m in a New York taxi with a bagful of diamond rings, I hope I get THIS cabbie.

The Queen of All Media?

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

It is late afternoon, so by now it has been reported on many thousand blogs before me that Howard Stern presented Beth Ostrosky with a 5.2 carat rock last night, just prior to having a romantic encounter which they made the appaling choice to describe on his radio show this morning.

Despite today’s blogfrenzy on this topic, I have yet to hear details of the ring’s appearance. Post them if you’ve got them!

I naturally tried to find a picture of this much-discussed stone, but instead I found a treasure trove of jaw-dropping pictures of this woman. Such as this one.

Beth Ostrosky in the Jen Breakup Leaf Pendant

Note the leaf pendant, now know as the Jen Breakup Leaf Pendant (or variations of this) due to its appearance on Jennifer Aniston in the dreadful Vince Vaughn movie “The Breakup.”

Beth Ostrosky and Howard Stern make about as much sense to me as Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. But you can never tell anybody anthing.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I hope everybody had a great Valentine’s Day! I had a very nice date (yes, I date! Who knew?) I wore the pendant that I wear every year. I bought it for an ex-boyfriend to give to me a couple of years ago, LOL. I didn’t get any jewelry from this new guy yesterday. Just flowers. But it’s not a “relationship” yet, so that’s fine. It’s actually a guy from work (yes, I have a job! Who knew?)

We had dinner in Santa Monica and then took a people-watching stroll on Venice Beach. And yes, we held hands! Actually, we weren’t able to hold hands until he finished telling me his story of how he has figured out the exact spot on the beach where Jim Morrison met some other guy and sang him a poem and they decided to make a band and, lo and behold, it was The Doors. The story took a lot of hand gestures, so I had to wait until it was over to make him hold my hand. But seriously, we had a nice time. And he complimented my pendant right before he kissed me at the end of the boardwalk!

Pucker up, Rudy!

Judith Nathan kisses Rudy on the Post cover

OK, I’m not really sure which of my lists I’m putting this woman on. And I’m trying to ignore the retired mayor that she’s making out with. BUT — I still must know about that necklace. And the bridal set. New Yorkers, I’m going to need your help here. If you actually held this paper in your hands as you stood on a subway platform PLEASE COMMENT and tell all.

Grammys 2007

Monday, February 12th, 2007

The Dixie Chicks may not be discussed here due to Natalie Maines. Not her political beliefs, but her new hair. I mean, what a situation.

The Chili Peppers came in wife-beaters and ratty tuxedo vests. Mary G. Blige kept crying. What a mess.

This year’s Grammy Jewelry Diva made her first statment of intent at the CMA’s last November.

Yes, despite some rude behavior from Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood kept her cool and was the Diva of the Day. I haven’t been able to determine what stone is hanging inside that yellow gold. Please post if you think you might know.

But back to the matter of the moment: the Grammys.

I’ve tried to blow up this pic, but it just blurs, so I can’t get a really good look at those earrings. But let’s be clear — I know a pair of fabulous diamond chandeliers when I see them. Carrie Underwood, welcome to the Diamond Diva Dish!

Fashion Week Winners

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Fall Fashion Week 2007 ended in New York this week. For those who are unclear about this, as I was when I first lived in NYC, let me clarify: the FALL fashion shows are in the dead of WINTER. So the buyers can have the clothes in their boutiques to sell during the SUMMER. Get it? Yeah. It’s like the way they put out Christmas stuff the day after Halloween, when there’s still Thanksgiving in between.

And the winners for Best Jewelry are:

Cynthia Nixon and Mary Louise Parker at Chaiken show

Cynthia Nixon has perfect yellow gold mini-medallion drop earrings, and no necklace. Mary Louise Parker has an incremental ring white gold necklace, and no earrings. They looked relaxed, casual and comfortable in the front row of the Chaiken show.

(You didn’t think I was going to talk about the fashion models, did you? Does anybody really look at them? LOL)

Goodbye Vickie Lynn

Did we stare at her, like a spectacular car crash?

Was she really the next Marilyn Monroe?

Will she be remembered in 45 years?

SAG Awards

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

After my Golden Globes rooftop fiasco, I decided to stay home and do my toenails during the SAG awards. (No pool boys to duke it out with.)

Strangely, there was a lot more high-end glitz on display at the SAG awards. Sometimes I think the stars dress up more for each other than for the rest of the world, you know? I guess that makes sense.

Anyway, there were loads of celebs wearing the hottest stuff: Ellen Pompeo (Gray’s) wearing Andrea Lieberman diamond hoops, Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) in Neil Lane diamond drops, Reese Witherspoon in an unbelievable Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet, Anne Hathaway in Cartier ruby & diamond chandeliers.

But my pick for the true diamond diva of the evening:

Golden Globes, at last!

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

OK, I’m clearing out my notes on the awards shows so I can move on with life as we know it.

I had a great bird’s eye view at The Golden Globes. Sort of. I got a coconut wrap and massage at the Peninsula, and I was hoping I’d be able to look down on the red carpet at the Hilton. What a really great idea, right? Wrong. The pool guy thought I was going to jump and he dragged me away from the rooftop fence and I made a scene and needless to say I went home and watched it on T.V. It’s a better view anyway.

So basically, there were some gigantic earrings going on at the Golden Globes. J-Lo had huge diamond chandeliers, Beyonce had great big door-knockers hanging off her head. But the winner hands-down was Jessica Biel, in a supersized version of the bean-style diamond arrangement.

Look at how her face is so ultra modern, but she can carry off these earrings! (Some might say the dress gives her a bit of help.)
