An Abundance of Bling!

Imagine a 72 Carat, flawless diamond !

large-diamond.jpg

The size of a tablespoon, this pear-shaped white diamond is D-color. It’s size and symmetry have earned it a “Type IIA” rating, garnered only by those white diamonds which are of the utmost brilliance.

At 72 carats in size, this is considered to be a “major stone” (I’ll say!), as is any stone above 50 carats. It is expected to be sold at a Sotheby’s auction in Asia next month for 12 million, the most expensive diamond ever sold in Asia. Though impressive in it’s own right, and ranking as the largest in the pear-shaped diamond category, it is not the largest diamond to be sold globally – this distinction goes to to a 100 carat “boulder” of nice ice, the “Star of the Season” diamond, sold for $16.5 million in 1995. Last year, the Chloe Diamond, an 84-carat stone which sold for $16.2 million was auctioned off.

Diamonds In Glass!

Monday, February 25th, 2008

diamonds-in-glass.JPG

Working with mainly borosilicate glass, the creators of Diamonds in Glass , have come up with a way to suspend diamonds in a variety of glass items both fanciful and utilitarian.

Natasha Marx and designer Tobias Berger of Austrian based DIG , take otherwise mundane glass items such as the humble ashtray, water goblet, or wine glass, and, with the addition of cut diamonds, create pieces that are intoxicating in their relative simplicity. The champagne flute,or the flacon stopper, make that sip of bubbly, or that dab of scent all the more exciting with the addition of a bauble!

diamonds-in-glass-flacon-stoppers.JPG

Each piece contains a diamond of the highest cut, color and clarity ensuring the value of these understated yet extremely elegant and tasteful items.

I really can’t imagine using this stemware on a continuum. As lovely as it is to look at, it’s more gratifying, in my opinion, to have my diamonds in the form of earrings, diamond bracelets, necklaces, and all other forms of personal adornment, as opposed to adorning my table! I know I’m not in a minority with this preference!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Beautiful In Bold Blue And Gold

Monday, January 21st, 2008

sarah-michelle-gellar-earrings.JPG

Sarah Michelle Gellar looks stunning strutting her stuff on the red carpet at the premiere of The Air I Breathe.

I’m anxious to see this one, as it is based on a multi-layered and profound Chinese philosophy of life, examining the four elements that weave the fabric of our being into a cohesive whole – happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. In the film, each of these elements is played by a different character (Sarah plays happiness), and all four are shown, of course, to share a symbiotic relationship. This should prove to be an interesting vehicle by which to examine the psyche!

Ah, but enough heavy stuff. We want to talk about heavy metal(s), don’t we? Sarah, dressed in a beautiful blue Temperley London dress, accessorizes with awesome bold, gold statement earrings.

I enjoy this trend toward statement pieces. Gone are the days when fashion dictated matching sets of earrings, necklace, bracelet and perhaps even ring! These days we are choosing stand along pieces – singular items that are bold and add the wow factor in a big way.

Sarah’s earrings are large scale with the warmth of yellow gold and the cluster effect for maximum impact. I’ve found several pair which, although different, create glitz and will make you feel like a glamour goddess when wearing them.

Lovely Statement Earrings:

Valentine’s Day Gift Giving Etiquette

Monday, January 21st, 2008

two-tone-gold-heart-necklace.JPG

Above: Two tone gold heart necklace — very now, very wow with trendy dangles! She’ll love it!

This one’s for the guys, because I know there are several of you out there who read my blog. I may not know you personally, but believe me, I know your “type”, your tendencies when it comes to gift-giving associated with the tradition of romance on Valentine’s Day. Yes, it is fast approaching, hence The Diamond Diva Dish Primer For Valentine’s Day Gift Giving Etiquette.

Worst case scenario – you give no gift at all. We won’t even go there! This is for those of you who can be redeemed! Yes, there is hope. Read on!

Most importantly, the gift you choose to give your girlfriend, fiance’, wife or significant other, says a lot about you – it is, in the final analysis, only as meaningful as the spirit in which it was given. Was the gift, regardless of price point, infused with forethought? Or was it a mere afterthought, picked up hastily from the over-priced, wilted offerings in the florist section of your local supermarket? Perhaps a box of chocolates secured, also at the last moment, from the same supermarket. This won’t do, guys!

You’ve been “had” if you choose the floral bouquet, or dozen roses, the cost of which will run you the equivalent of a nice item of jewelry on Valentine’s Day. Florist’s have inflated the price for this auspicious occasion – they sit in wait for you, and know that demand will equal or exceed supply, because you will go through the motions of this thoughtless purchase and line their wallets!

Chocolates, too, are a gift of convenience and lack of thought in purchase. It’s not that your loved one doesn’t deserve a sweet treat on occasion, but in and of itself, this is not the gift she’s expecting to receive. Think of the ensuing remorse, having gobbled the contents of the box in short order, while under stress of processing your thoughtless gift, and perhaps some remorse, too, for being with a cad whose gift bears not the slightest hint of romance whatsoever!

Take it from me, guys – women have an insatiable appetite for all things that glitter! The gift of jewelry will earn you kudos every time. Let’s clarify for a moment – not just any gift of jewelry, but an item relative to whatever stage you are in your relationship.

Those in recently established unions will want to choose carefully an item which conveys thought, yet does not exceed the boundaries of what would be considered premature. Put a hold on the diamond engagement ring , otherwise you may scare her off! A pretty heart necklace in either (or both!) of the precious metals will show her you have a heart of gold!

If yours is a relationship of ample duration (I would define this as a year), and you’re interested in cultivating it further, wow her with a pair of diamond stud earrings . Available in a variety of price points, she’ll be thrilled, and think that both you, and the gift, are real keepers!

diamond-stud-earrings.jpg

Are you in a long term loving relationship, yet still suffering commitment anxiety and the thought of an engagement ring elicits a flight response? Consider choosing something that will impress upon her your deep feelings by gifting her with a symbolic representation of your future, though without the time constraints associated with engagements. A heart-shaped Diamond Journey Pendant represents life’s journey, each diamond a step along the way – those taken together, those yet to be taken. Again, a gift straight from the heart, sure to tug at her heartstrings!

diamond-journey-heart-pendant.JPG

They say that those who have been in a relationship for a very long time, actually begin to resemble one another! They finish one another’s sentences, and are such kindred spirits, can read the thoughts of the other with no words exchanged. If you quantify your relationship thusly, you must have an innate understanding that it’s time for a diamond eternity band . The one you’d been meaning to purchase, the one she’s been dropping hints about. Yes, that one! She’s earned it, she’ll love it, and she’ll know that the flame burns just as brightly now, as it did in the beginning.

eternity-band.jpg

If you’re still reading, and still feel compelled to purchase those chocolates, well, I’m not going to argue with you! I admit, there are certainly some instances when chocolate is, indeed a tasteful gift. It’s all contingent upon the configuration, the presentation. The eye candy factor! Anytime you add rock candy to the mix, well, you have a real winner!

The above suggestions are meant to give you some ideas for glittery, quality gift items. While perusing and choosing others, don’t forget to enter the Diamond Diva Dish Sweepstakes sponsored by Diamond Harmony for a chance to win a stunning 14K diamond (1/4CTW) dangle heart pendant (pictured above) A heartfelt gift for your loved one!

Blackberry Bling!

Monday, January 14th, 2008

blackberry-bling.JPG

In 2008 and beyond, will the trend toward unabashed bling continue, or will there be a tendency toward the elements of more refined and understated elegance? The answer is twofold — as consumers continue to favor both the outward signs of upward mobility, and manufacturers scramble to satisfy this niche, it will always be the case of what is relative to individual taste – there is a market for all manner of consumption from the sublime, to the ridiculous!

Further to the latter — 3.5 CTW worth of diamonds , 15 grams of gold , and a value of $20,000.00. Would you choose to dress your Blackberry in such bling, as opposed to yourself? Not I! Casemate , however, produced this diamond studded Blackberry number to satisfy the Diamond Diva whose appetite for nice ice extends beyond her person! The perfect mode of dress for your Blackberry if it accompanies you to a black tie event!

Not intended for mass production, Casemate will display this item at the CES 2008 show, and one lucky winner will take it home as a prize!

Katherine Heigl’s Wedded Bliss

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl wed Josh Kelley in a winter wonderland wedding at the exclusive Little Nell resort in Deer Valley, Utah.

katherine-heigl-wedding-dress.JPG

Looking radiant in an $8,000 form fitting Oscar de la Renta gown, she’s also sporting some serious bling!

Katherine is currently “feathering” a new nest with her husband and has been seen out and about shopping for paint colors and household items. She intends to quit acting by 2009 and raise a family. Read the full post-wedding interview from OK Magazine as both newlyweds share their bliss!

In addition to a pear shaped diamond engagement ring, Katherine describes her wedding band as a diamond-and-sapphire Eternity Band

In opting for a diamond and sapphire wedding band, Katherine has chosen a marriage of two “royal” stones! Diamonds are referred to as “The King” of all stones and sapphires as “The Queen” of all gemstones. It is also the second hardiest of stones after the diamond. Combined they “marry” to make an exquisite combination of clarity and depth. I have always found the two together make intoxicating and engaging pieces!

Whether you are choosing fine jewelry for formal wear, such as this classic pair of Diamond and sapphire pear cut drop earrings, or a Diamond and Sapphire Ring to add some fashion flare, together, these two stones effect a wealth of beauty and bling!

Barbie Doll With Bling!

Monday, January 7th, 2008

diamond-barbie.JPG

Since she first appeared on the scene in 1959, she’s had more careers than a cat has lives, she has been shunned as an unnatural objectification of womanhood, the likes of which have given rise to unachievable standards, and she has been banned by entire nations. In spite of being much maligned, she is still the most played with doll by young girls everywhere, and, she continues to be reinvented, many times over!

Shown in the above iteration, Barbie is the quintessential Diamond Diva Doll. Designed by De Beers, she is dressed in a vibrant diaphanous outfit which is embellished with 160 diamonds and comes with diminutive accessories and white gold jewelry.

This Diamond Diva Barbie had a price tag of $85,000.00, rendering her the most expensive Barbie Doll ever. As Barbie dolls continue to be highly collectible (Barbie # 1 circa 1959 sold for $8,000.00), both on the primary and secondary markets, one has to be in awe of the collector who would prefer to have her Barbie Doll adorned in bling as opposed to herself!
