I’ve long admired Reese Witherspoon – she is bubbly without being a bimbo, effortlessly classy though not stuffy, managed to transcend a much publicized and messy divorce all while juggling career and motherhood without compromise. She seems to be “the complete package”!

Reese was on the red carpet last week to promote “Rendition”, the Gavin Hood film featured at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival. Starring such notables as Jake Gyllenhaal (with whom Reese has been linked romantically since both worked on the film), Alan Arkin, Peter Sarsgaard, and Meryl Streep.

Timely in it’s storyline, the film’s title derives it’s origin from the term “extordinary rendition” a policy which maintains that alleged terrorists can be extradited to foreign prisons and subsequently tortured outside the protection of the legal framework of their country of origin.

Reese plays Isabella, the pregnant wife of an Egyptian-American chemist, who, returning from a business trip, is taken into custody (interrogated and beaten) on suspicion of having been linked to the Middle East suicide bomb-linked death of a CIA officer. Heavy stuff, though the thriller has gleaned rave reviews for Hood’s treatment of this sensitive topic.

Reese’s unfettered couture provides the perfect canvas to showcase her stunning diamond pieces. The tradition of the promise ring dates back many years to a time during which the price of gold was prohibitive, so when things got serious, a woman was given a silver ring to pledge the promise of things to come. Upon marriage, the sterling silver ring was replaced with a gold band. The tradition continues, today, with the contemporary version of the promise ring – typically comprised of a thin gold band, with a delicate stone (euphemism for barely visible to the naked eye!), it is a sweet gesture, a sentiment usually reserved for that particular brand of young love with questionable longevity!

Then, there’s me—of considerably lesser renown and net worth than the above two Divas, but still with an eye to beautiful pieces which, although timely, I know will transcend the trends because they aren’t extreme so won’t be rendered obsolete a year from now.

Jlo’s recently been getting some death threats and it got me thinking about my mother (not the death threats - what kind of a daughter do you think I am? Not this close to mother’s day, anyway!). The threats came from the good people at PETA because, like my dear old mum, Mrs. Marc Anthony loves fur. The real kicker though is the earrings she was wearing in the accompanying photos: silver flowers blooming from her ear! I love celebrities. (In case you missed that.) They are the true heroes. Who else has the time and money for the noble cause of looking fabulous? It inspires us mere mortals to strive! But it isn’t always easy on them…

On styleikon.com I found a posting about Jessica Biel’s troubles after becoming Esquire Magazine’s “Sexiest Woman Alive.” She told Elle mag that she’s too sexy for many roles! Directors tell her they want a “girl-next-door” type instead. What has become of Hollywood?

What is wrong with them? This could be the girl next door. LOL Why not? Love those hoops. And I am really into that rounded gold pendant. Smooth, Elegant, Sexy. (I could live without the gold dog-tag. Save that for the girl next door.)
