Hoops are hotter than July and the trend will continue into fall. Size matters! The bigger and bolder, the better! Check out the hoops Hillary Duff & Jessica Simpson are sporting. Hillary’s are bold in yellow gold, while Jessica opts for white gold glitz.

Then, there’s me—of considerably lesser renown and net worth than the above two Divas, but still with an eye to beautiful pieces which, although timely, I know will transcend the trends because they aren’t extreme so won’t be rendered obsolete a year from now.

Jlo’s recently been getting some death threats and it got me thinking about my mother (not the death threats - what kind of a daughter do you think I am? Not this close to mother’s day, anyway!). The threats came from the good people at PETA because, like my dear old mum, Mrs. Marc Anthony loves fur. The real kicker though is the earrings she was wearing in the accompanying photos: silver flowers blooming from her ear! I love celebrities. (In case you missed that.) They are the true heroes. Who else has the time and money for the noble cause of looking fabulous? It inspires us mere mortals to strive! But it isn’t always easy on them…

On styleikon.com I found a posting about Jessica Biel’s troubles after becoming Esquire Magazine’s “Sexiest Woman Alive.” She told Elle mag that she’s too sexy for many roles! Directors tell her they want a “girl-next-door” type instead. What has become of Hollywood?

What is wrong with them? This could be the girl next door. LOL Why not? Love those hoops. And I am really into that rounded gold pendant. Smooth, Elegant, Sexy. (I could live without the gold dog-tag. Save that for the girl next door.)

So let’s be clear: Jessica Simpson is still on my “Divas In Training” list. Meaning, she has the potential to wear appropriate or even attractive jewelry, but this cannot overcome the fact that her tan is out of a can and she is dumb as a bag of hair.

However, she showed up recently in these pave cut white gold hoops, which really are quite trendy and do especially well inside of a mane of hair of any color.

Don’t worry, this style of hoops is actually all the rage. You won’t turn stupid if you wear them. I tried to find a pair at Diamond Harmony, but they don’t have any right now. I have to write to them and get a special order!

Jennifer Lopez has announced that she has grown up, and no longer wants to be called J. Lo.  That’s Jennifer, please — Miss Lopez if you’re nasty.

This is from a couple of weeks ago in Madrid — she’s getting an award for her album “Como Ama Una Mujer”. 

Look at her earrings – an amazing combo of drops and chandeliers. The necklace is fabulous — blends with the light hair, contrasts the black dress. Are those yellow fancy diamonds?  I wonder if she does her own styling.  Um…no. 

OK its not really an update because we already knew that hoops are huge again this year and chandeliers are back with a vengeance.  but today we have really great supporting evidence LOL

So, hoops are just hot, and there’s no denying it. They make you look so free and happy.

Today, we have a lesson in the use of the always-fashionable Hoop Earrings.

Diamond hoops: usually smaller. An inch and a half is nice. Elegant yet strong; flashy but subtle.

Gold hoops: currently, the trend is towards BIG. 2 inches and up, either yellow or white gold.

Our models: Oprah Winfrey and Mary J. Blige.

The Dixie Chicks may not be discussed here due to Natalie Maines. Not her political beliefs, but her new hair. I mean, what a situation.

The Chili Peppers came in wife-beaters and ratty tuxedo vests. Mary G. Blige kept crying. What a mess.

This year’s Grammy Jewelry Diva made her first statment of intent at the CMA’s last November.

Yes, despite some rude behavior from Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood kept her cool and was the Diva of the Day. I haven’t been able to determine what stone is hanging inside that yellow gold. Please post if you think you might know.

But back to the matter of the moment: the Grammys.

Fall Fashion Week 2007 ended in New York this week. For those who are unclear about this, as I was when I first lived in NYC, let me clarify: the FALL fashion shows are in the dead of WINTER. So the buyers can have the clothes in their boutiques to sell during the SUMMER. Get it? Yeah. It’s like the way they put out Christmas stuff the day after Halloween, when there’s still Thanksgiving in between.

And the winners for Best Jewelry are:

Cynthia Nixon has perfect yellow gold mini-medallion drop earrings, and no necklace. Mary Louise Parker has an incremental ring white gold necklace, and no earrings. They looked relaxed, casual and comfortable in the front row of the Chaiken show.

(You didn’t think I was going to talk about the fashion models, did you? Does anybody really look at them? LOL)
